Zachary Konick is a composer, percussionist, and hammered dulcimerist based in Hollywood, CA. He holds degrees in music composition from UC San Diego (PhD), the University of South Florida (MM), and the University of Maryland (BM). He has collaborated with world class artists such as the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, the newEar Ensemble, the Quasar Saxophone Quartet, the Florida Orchestra, the JACK, Ethel, Spektral, and Mivos String Quartets, as well as Lee Hinkle, Rebecca Lloyd Jones, Mark Dresser and Alice Weinreb. His music has been conducted under the baton of Oliver Knussen, Aleck Karis, Michael Francis and Steven Schick. Konick has studied and collaborated with some of today’s leading composers, including Pulitzer Prize winning composer, Roger Reynolds, Thomas DeLio, Chinary Ung, Lei Liang, Michelle Lou, Katharina Rosenberger, Baljinder Sekhon and Paul Reller. In the Spring and Summer of 2023, Konick served as Associate Professor of music composition and music theory at UC San Diego. As a percussionist, Zachary has served as a member of the McCormick Percussion Group and performs as a soloist on the hammered dulcimer. Today, he is active as a composer for commercial media, writing for independent films and events.
